I don't know about you, but this year is truly flying right by!

 

We are in the middle of some major building improvements. Thanks to you and your support, the worst spots on the roof are finally fixed, the front porch, east side and rear wall are in new paint, and we plan to get the West side of the building painted within the next couple of weeks. 

 

Here is a look at the work. If you want to see the finished product, you will need to come see it!

So now while our creative people (Jim) work on the rest of the season and start planning the next one, it is time to concentrate on our annual fund. 

 

Every season part of my job (the least fun part) is to figure out how to fund the work The New Vic is doing. The New Vic is unique among arts organizations in that we manage to obtain nearly 50% of our operating budget from earned income. (Ticket sales, concessions, merchandise) While this may not sound impressive...for a non profit arts organization it is fantastic! It is not possible for a non-profit arts organization like ours to maintain the program without fundraising. 

 

That is among the many reasons you are so very important. You are more than just a customer to me. Without you, obviously, there would be little point to putting performers on the stage. As a performer, the process is tremendously important. Rehearsing to bring a character to life-whether in a dramatic, comedic or musical fashion-is an amazing journey of self exploration, learning and stretching of limits for the performer. All very rewarding. However, without you, the audience, the most vital final piece of the puzzle is missing. Let's face it, performing is about giving something of ourselves to others to entertain and enrich their lives. I believe most performers are givers, mentors, helpers. They desire to make the world a better place, a more beautiful place. To make everyone who sees them onstage feel a bit better, lighter, happier, more settled, more thoughtful and/or more in awe of the wonderful world we live in. I know I do. 

 

So...really...you make this all happen. 

 

You are the who, the why and the how of The New Vic Theatre. Most of our regular supporters know that I grew up here at The New Vic. You have all been part of my life my whole life...part of my holidays, birthdays ...my family. When I say you are a part of The New Vic family, I mean it. I can't thank you enough for that.

 

Sooooo, family of mine, I now ask you for the big Annual support. This year we have to raise about $50,000 to continue our work. This is the money that pays the bills. (lights, heat, insurance, supplies, etc.)It isn't glamorous or exciting but it needs to happen. I will continue to furiously write grants, look for corporate sponsors, and work to fill seats. You can help by giving today. You can also help by encouraging your friends to give. I know you can do the math, but do you realize that if we could just get 1,000 people to give $50 we would be all set?!? Even $5 can add up when we get enough people on board. 

 

I know that with your help we can meet our fundraising goal for 2017.
